‘ALEXA, when’s it going to end?’

‘Simply delightful’. Graham.

‘I’m laughing out loud reading it.’ Amy

Face masks, hand sanitiser, Zoom meetings, daily Amazon deliveries, social distancing – a way of life that we have become all too used to after the country was locked down on 23 March 2020.

In conversations at appropriate distances or online we talked about getting plants from garden centres, how well DIY stores are set-up for Click and Collect, television box sets recommended, not seeing grandchildren and the parties we would have when the pandemic finally passed.

We adjusted to the new normal. We muted, waited for the next slide and followed the science. We marvelled at Jonathan Van-Tam’s suits and metaphors in equal measure and hung on to Professor Chris Whitty’s every word,

In ‘Alexa, when’s it going to end?’ I describe how the pandemic has affected me and the people in my life. My diary, based on my non award-winning blog ‘Ramblings in Retirement’, covers a twelve-month period unique in modern times, a significant part of which was spent working out how to stop my glasses from misting up when wearing a face mask.

I sent the manuscript to New Generation Publishing at the beginning of April 2021.
