An Ode To Grandparents
Grandparents can do anything
Versatile with a capital V
Give ’em a task and they’ll do what is asked
Without ever charging a fee.
…
They can answer the call, request large or small
And display knowledge from A to Z
Advice is dispensed with much common sense
Wise heads who are wildly read.
…
They can talk with ease, charm the birds from the trees
Vital when answering the call
Whether on finance, fridges, insurance or midges
These guys know it all.
Ships That Pass in the Night
Dot and Alan were work-committed
Holding high-powered jobs by right
Which deprived them of each other’s company
Ships that passed in the night.
…
They vowed that retirement would change all
That days would pass by together
But Dot had a friend in the WI
And Alan took up golf in fine weather.
…
Dot got into bridge with the girls from Keep Fit
And also gave Pilates a try
While Alan found pleasure in plucking and strumming
Ukulele gave him a high.
…
Twice a month Dot took up Spanish
While Al’s golfing prowess shone bright
Further depriving them of each other’s company
Once again ships that pass in the night.
